Winter at Museum of the Home

Winter at Museum of the Home

Our Rooms Through Time will be dressed with seasonal festivities, exploring how cultural and personal traditions shape how we spend time at home during the winter months.

Step back in time and experience a Midwinter feast in 1630, discover the days when spectacular fairs were held on the frozen waters of the River Thames, uncover the origins of Boxing Day, learn to play dreidel, listen to festive music on the radiogram and imagine what festive traditions might look like in the not-so-distant 2049.

From rushing to finish last-minute Christmas orders to preparing for large family gatherings to putting up increasingly extravagant decorations, the exhibition brings together experiences of winter across different London homes from 1630 and into the future.

Winter Past is an annual exhibition curated in collaboration with the Museum’s Community Authors, who share ideas, produce and suggest creative programming to challenge the ways we work, ensuring that Museum of the Home remains representative and inclusive to all.
